Dr Stephanie Alaribe

Dr Alaribe is a Bio and Pharmaceutical Chemist with a specialty in Medicinal and Natural Product Chemistry. She is also a Public Analyst in assessing drugs, drugs-related products and water. Dr Alaribe holds a BSc. Degree in Biochemistry (Unical, 2001), Masters and PhD degree in Pharmaceutical Chemistry from the University of Lagos in 2005 and 2011 respectively and qualified as a Public analyst of the Institution of Public Analyst of Nigeria in 2017. Over the years, Dr Alaribe has conducted research in the area of isolation, purification and structural identification of secondary metabolites bioactives present in selected Nigerian medicinal products of plants, fungi and animal origin. During this escapade, she made a significant breakthrough in the discovery of Decussatin, a potential antimalaria drug in Ficus Congensis for the very first time. Currently, she is involved in developing Quality Control (QC) markers in accessing Nigerian herbal and Medicinal products using computational chemistry and fingerprinting. Dr Alaribe is a consultant in assessing drugs to some Health Parastatals and has also investigated some Nigerian Herbal Products which has added value to the quality of the products. She has mentored and supervised over twenty (20) undergraduates, Ten (10) Masters Students and currently has three (3) PhD students in her research group. She is a member of several academic groups and institutions including Society for Medicinal Plant Research (GA), Germany, Institute of Public Analyst of Nigeria, Nigerian Society of Pharmacognosy, American Society of Pharmacognosy (ASP), International Society for Infectious Diseases(ISID), Societa Italo-Latin American of Ethnomedicine (SILAE, African Representative) and Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World(OWSD). She is currently appointed a member of a subcommittee in ASP, USA to represent the interest of Sub-Saharan Africa and environs. Dr Alaribe, together with a team of faculty members, also won the World Bank Grant, African Centre for Excellence, Drug Research, Herbal Medicine Development and Regulatory Science, 2018/2019. She has also bagged several other awards such as Central Research Grant, Biochemical Society travel grant, UK. Dr Alaribe has also published and presented papers in local and international journals. Dr Alaribe is bringing her experience in Natural Product Chemistry, Quality assessment of drugs and related products into the African Center of Excellence for Drug Research, Herbal Medicine Development and Regulatory Science (ACE-DHARS). She loves singing and Dancing to the Glory of God.
