Dr Ezekiel O. Akinkunmi

Dr Ezekiel Olugbenga Akinkunmi is an academic in the Faculty of Pharmacy, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, Nigeria. Presently, he is the Acting Head of Department of the Department of Pharmaceutics and an Associate Professor in the Department. He is a Pharmacist and had a BPharm, MSc and a PhD in the same Faculty with a PharmD degree in the University of Benin, Nigeria. Due to his varied interests, he also has a degree in Christian theology. He was a Research Scholar in the School of Pharmacy, Biosciences and Biotechnology, University of Camerino, Camerino, Italy. He has attended several Conferences and Workshops in Nigeria and outside the country.
Dr Akinkunmi has expertise in Pharmaceutical Microbiology and Biotechnology as well as in Pharmaceutics and Clinical Pharmacy. His research field is in Staphylococcal Epidemiology, studying the genetics, pathogenicity and drug resistance of S. aureus and other clinically significant staphylococcal species with special focus on enteric staphylococci. He also conducts research in infectious diseases and antimicrobial studies with focus on the development of effective antimicrobial agents from natural and synthetic sources for use in the management of antibiotic and antiseptic resistant pathogens and infectious diseases including viral, fungal, bacterial diseases. He also carries out studies in antimicrobial stewardship, invoving analysis of stewardship practices in health care settings, veterinary, primary, secondary and tertiary hospitals in his country.
Dr Akinkunmi is a member of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, Nigerian Association of Pharmacists in Academia, American Society for Microbiology, Copyright Society of Nigeria, International Network for Rational Use of Drugs, Science Advisory Board and ProMed International. He is presently the Chairman of the Nigerian Association of Pharmacists in Academia of his University and State. Some of his published Work can be found here
